It’s All News To Me

Are you a news junkie with neither the time nor the energy to visit all your online news sources? Are you bored with the Google News approach to aggregation? Do you crave new ways to display results and make sense of current events? This month's issue of ResearchNOTES highlights some different ways to deliver news content...

Newser, at http://www.newser.com/, gathers top stories from more than 100 sources. Run your search, and on the results page you'll find links to full texts as well as concise summaries written by their editors. This feature comes in handy when you just need to skim the articles.

MetaCarta GeoSearch News (http://www.geosearch.metacarta.com) combines news and maps. The site displays search results in the left-hand pane of your browser window, and the results are mapped in the right-hand pane. Use this when you want to see where people are talking about a topic, or if you need to drill down to local sources.

Still in beta, NewsToWatch – found at http://www.newstowatch.com/ – lets you see which breaking news stories are the most read. They don't, however, offer an advanced search feature at this time.

Do you have a favorite site for catching up with the news? Let me know, and I'll post it along with your comments on my blog at www.MarcyPhelps.com.

See you next month – Marcy

It's been five years since the first issue of ResearchNOTES was sent to just 17 subscribers! We now have more than 400 subscribers around the world. Thanks so much for reading this bulletin and forwarding it to your friends and colleagues.
