Hyperlocal sources—including news services, blogs, directories, and classified advertising—focus on community-level information. And they’re not just for people looking for the closest sushi restaurant. If you’re searching online for business and market information about a particular location, hyperlocal sources can provide insights into local issues, businesses, consumer opinion, and more. This month in ResearchNOTES, we have a few sites for finding hyperlocal information: Placeblogger, at www.placeblogger.com, helps you find blogs based on their location. Sample searches for blogs in the Denver area produced some interesting reads. It’s a great resource for getting an insider’s view of a particular town or neighborhood. If you want to know what’s going on somewhere, visit Oustide.in at www.outside.in. They gather information from a variety of sources and make it easy for you to find news, blogs, reviews, events, and more. Real estate site Trulia (www.trulia.com) offers a glimpse of a community’s quality of life. In the Stats & Trends area, look for the real estate overviews, market trends, school statistics, and community information—right down to the ZIP Code or neighborhood level.
