Some new search engines for the New Year Happy 2008! It’s a brand-new year, so why not try out some new search engines? This issue of ResearchNOTES highlights two search engines that are new (at least to me) and that I’ve recently tested... In an effort to get my recipe collection under control, I wanted to read what people were saying about MasterCook, a recipe software product. I checked it out at Omgili (http://www.omgili.com/), which searches for consumer opinions, debates, discussions, personal experiences, and questions and answers. The results helped me decide to give the software a try. Sometimes I want to focus on business-related information so I don’t have to sort through consumer offers and other unrelated content. VerticalSearch, at http://www.verticalsearch.com/, searches business-to-business trade publications and covers a wide range of industries. It can save you a lot of time sifting through results. Have you come across any new and interesting search engines? Let me know, and I’ll share them in next month’s ResearchNOTES. I’m excited to announce that I am now the contributing editor in the FIND practice area for FUMSI, a new publication and Web site for people who FIND, USE, MANAGE, and SHARE information (http://www.fumsi.com). In coming months look for contributed articles that will help you stay up-to-date on search techniques and resources. Regards – Marcy Marcy Phelps Phelps Research +1 303.239.0657; +1 800.600.8041 |
