Get Smart Before You Get Social…

At a recent conference, I participated on a panel discussion called, “Marketing on the Cheap.” My part on the panel involved identifying some best practices for social media marketing. This month in ResearchNOTES, I’d like to share some of my favorite tips and resources for making sure you get off to a good start on the social web:

  • Think strategy before you think tactics. “Roadmap for Social Media Marketing Strategy,” at http://snipurl.com/s9m7u, lists six things you should consider before you get started.
  • Make sure you’re getting the most out of your time and efforts. Read Duct Tape Marketing’s “5 Tips for Getting More from Social Media Marketing” (http://snipurl.com/s9k4l).
  • Be very, very careful out there! I found some great tips for staying out of trouble on the social web in “Seven Deadly Sins of Social Networking Security,” at http://snipurl.com/s9l74,
  • Not sure what tools are out there for social media marketing? Try “Top 100 Social Media Cheat Sheet for Business,” (http://snipurl.com/s9lew) with its links to free social marketing tools and directories.

NOW go get social, and have fun!
