Audiovisual Aids

The number of audio, video and pictures on the web is exploding, and web searchers are looking for better ways to find them. Lately, I've been test driving some search engines for finding non-text files, and I thought I'd share a few of them with you in this month's ResearchNOTES...

Trooker, at www.trooker.com, searches videos on YouTube, Myspace, Metacafe, Crackle and Live Video. It offers several features that help you upload, collect and share videos.

Most multimedia searching is done on words around files, including the title, words in links and text on a web page. Thanks to speech-recognition technology, Everyzing - at search.everyzing.com - actually searches the words within audio and video files.

For royalty-free images, you can turn to the U.S. government. At many agency websites, you'll find photo galleries, extensive collections of images in the public domain. Search for these at www.USASearch.gov.

Why not take these search engines out for a spin? Let me know what you think.

Enjoy! -- Marcy
